• A typical consumer hard drive has transfer rate of ~100MBytes/sec
• A typical PC game takes more than a few seconds to start up
• Typically games do not load hundreds of megabytes ...
• ... but they often load many small files
• A typical consumer hard drive has average seek times of ~8-20ms
